Saturday, December 4

The band students and parents will be volunteering at the Super Store on Saturday.  The information will go home next Monday.  Make sure to ask your child for it.

Wednesday, December 15

Athena Christmas Concert:  there will be one in the afternoon and one in the evening.  Both choirs, bands, string club and music classes will be performing.  Band students need to wear black pants or skirts, and black shoes.

Friday, January 28, 2011

Five grade 9 students will be participating in the PEI Intermediate Honors Band in Charlottetown.  They will perform in Summerside at the Jubilee on Sunday, January 30.


Friday, April 15

Grade 6-7 Band travels to Truro for the Truro Music Festival;  a one day adventure.


April 28-29, 2011

Grade 8-9 Band and 7-9 Vocal Ensemble travel to Halifax for the Atlantic Band Festival.

Band Update

Fundraiser!
The orders have been sent, so we should see them in 3 weeks.

Remembrance Day Assembly!  Tuesday, November 9, 10:00am.
The 8-9 Band and 7-9 Vocal Ensemble will be performing.  The students must wear black shirts and black pants and black shoes.  I want to see how it looks to have everyone in black!

Also, the grade 4-5 choir will be performing.  They just need to wear something nice.

Practicing!
More students need to be taking their instruments home more often.  We seem to be doing some of the same skills in class over and over again.  We need to move forward:  get practising!!!!

FUNDRAISER DUE!

The fundraising committee will be tallying the orders this week, so please get them in by Wednesday, October 27 by the very latest.  We need to send the orders to get them back by mid-November.  Thanks so much the great effort in sales!

Also, if you are available to help sort uniforms Wednesday night at the school, around 6:00pm, please email me so I'll know how many to expect.

The "Cookies and Coffee" catalogues are being sent home this week.  Please read the info carefully before beginning to sell.  I forgot to include on the letter to make cheques payable to "Athena Band Association".

Grade 6 and 7 Morning practices CANCELLED

Good evening, everyone!  I've decided to give in to this cold I have and try to get better;  therefore, I need to cancel grade 6 band for tomorrow morning (September 27) and grade 7 band for Tuesday morning (September 28).  I should be able to talk and sing by Wednesday!!

Successful Meeting!!!

On Thursday, September 16, we held our first band parent meeting of the year.  I was overwhelmed with the attendance and volunteer interest.  It's inspiring to know that so many parents care about their child's musical success.  Thank you!!!

Committees:  Thanks for putting your names forward for fundraising, phone trees, etc.  I will make the lists available shortly.  Check the newsletter link on the homepage.

Fundraising Meeting:  Thursday, September 23, 6:30pm, music room.  A few people signed up for this committee.  Please let me know if you are unable to attend and we will scedule a different time.  All band parents are welcome to attend as we will be discussing and starting our first fundraiser.

7-9 Vocal Ensemble and Grade 6 Band

7-9 VOCAL ENSEMBLE

The vocal ensemble will have their first morning rehearsal tomorrow, Wednesday, September 15 at 7:45 am.  We are preparing to record a Christmas song for the Children's Wish Foundation Christmas Wish CD.  The recording is on October 6 in Summerside.  More info will be available soon.

GRADE 6 BAND

The grade 6 band students who did not attend band camp are asked to stay after school on Thursday, September 16, until 4:15 pm.  Mr. StAmand and I will be providing them with some hands on instruction to get them caught up to the others.

Welcome Musicians and Parents!

Welcome back!  I am looking forward to working with everyone this year.  This blog will provide you with updated information about meetings, concerts, rehearsals, and special events.  Athena will have the following music groups:  6-7 Band, 8-9 Band, 7-9 Vocal Ensemble, 7-9 Strings, and an elementary choir (not sure which grades yet, TBA).  If you are new to the school, feel free to contact me about becoming a member of these fabulous groups!

BAND PARENT MEETING: 
Thursday, September 16, 5:45pm, prior to Information Night, Athena music room.

The band students need your active support to ensure their musical success in band.  We need parent volunteers to help manage the details of the organization. "Many hands make light work".  We will be discussing expectations, rehearsals, attendance, instrument care, practise routines, uniforms, events, and fundraising.
